I'm looking for your feedback on the proposed House Bill 273 (Connor's Law).  The Bill was first introduced and read by Delegate King on January 25, 2010.  If enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, Maryland Law will change from it's current standard of 1 lifeguard for every 50 individuals in the water to a ratio of 1 for every 25.  If adopted the Act will take effect October 1, 2010.

The implementation of this proposal would have VERY SIGNIFICANT impacts on our operation or on staffing levels and costs.

Any lifeguard to patron ratio is just too difficult to enforce. I much prefer a lifeguard to square footage ratio because when you can manage that much more effectively. I thought the AED requirement was also part of Connor's Law. If that's the case, AED usually don't call for a shock in drowning cases.
