As I've transitioned from working year round as a very active lifeguard to a sit behind the desk facility manager, I find that I'm not as fit as I used to be. I miss the svelter me.This seems to plague a lot of former lifeguard-turned-facility…Continue

One more reason not to like permanently installed pool ladders. I believe that pool ladders should removable so that they may be more easily inspected and repaired. As well as be out of the way for swim meets. Any thoughts?

It's hard to believe that they can't find Lifeguards at all; I would think that if they could find a way to partner with other local agencies they could train enough guards to work the beach and other local facilities.
Comment by Chris Griffith on July 12, 2011 at 8:10pm See the next video in our Real World: Lifeguards series below.
Three Lifeguards give their take on swim lessons, Sonic Drive-In's and more in the video. They even have an immersion alarm go off by accident! See things from their point of view and learn why you need to be well nourished to be a lifeguard.
Note:
This video shows a brief response to an immersion alarm. There was no actual emergency and the facility was not open for business at the time of filming. They responded instinctively and followed proper facility EAP procedures.
These are off duty Lifeguards and are not filming these videos while responsible for patron safety of any kind. We film with pool safety in mind.
